Supporting Female Leaders and Women in the Workplace
/What qualities does a good leader possess? What makes a good leader? What are some leadership styles that help us thrive?
During these unprecedented times, countries led by a female head of state seem to be doing better with their responses to the pandemic and are handling it more effectively than other nations led by males. In fact, countries with female leaders suffered far lower death rates than comparable nations led by men thus far during the first wave. What does this tell us about female leadership, and what can we all learn during this time of crisis that will enhance our leadership skills for the future? During this Candid Conversation, Outspoken speaker and transgender activist Paula Stone Williams discussed these and other issues related to the traits that help an organization flourish with a female style of leadership.
When speaking about female leaders handling the pandemic worldwide, Paula said that she heard one of the answers is because women are more decisive than men. “That brought some interesting questions, because that’s not necessarily something I have observed. Now that I’ve worked primarily with females, and you know I will always live in between genders, and have seen life from both sides, I find that most women I have worked with will consider all variables and possibilities. I do find that most women are better at embracing nuance.” Paula also stated that “Women’s brains are constantly firing neurons from left brain to right brain while men’s neurons tend to not cross over. So, women’s brains both artistically and logically are both functioning more holistically together than a male’s.”
