Known for tour-de-force solo theater shows in which she introduces the audience to an array of provocative (and hilarious) characters from a variety of backgrounds, ethnicities, and opinions, Sarah Jones came to prominence with her Tony Award-winning play, Bridge & Tunnel, produced by Meryl Streep. Her subsequent sold-out off-Broadway play, Sell/Buy/Date, inspired a film by the same name (now streaming on Amazon Prime) in which she tackles the intersection of race, gender justice, the economy, and various other issues through the unexpected lens of the sex industry. Using humor, investigative interviews, and her own personal story, the film highlights many angles of this topic and how it is closer and more relevant to all of our lives than we may realize.

Called “a master of the genre” by The New York Times, she’s presented mainstage at TED multiple times garnering millions of views, performed at the White House, and gave a performance at The World Economic Forum in Davos as the first ever artist on its stage normally reserved for heads of state.

As a performer, Sarah is best known for her chameleon-like ease with which she envelops each character—from a 85-year-old Jewish bubbe to a “dude” driver called Rashid. Sarah has taken her array of characters and turned them into some of the most unique stage experiences for event hosts. An elevated comedy experience that makes people laugh and gives them something to think about, Sarah is working with organizations to tailor her presentation to their unique event goals.

Executive Produced by Meryl Streep, Sell/Buy/Date is a hybrid doc/narrative following Tony-winning performer and comedian Sarah Jones. As a mixed-race Black woman in America, Sarah, alongside the multicultural characters she’s known for, explores her own personal relationship to one of the most misunderstood issues in our current culture: the sex industry, and the surprisingly diverse range of people whose lives it touches. Through interviews and even celebrity cameos, this film poses the question: how can we as a society have a healthy relationship to sex, power, race and our economy, without exploitation or stigma?
