Genuine Desire to Connect
/Dan Doty, founder of Evryman, with guest host and founder of The Luminaries, Cherie Healey, spoke about the core ethos and the tools to show up, stick with it and create compassion and possibility at home and work in this Candid Conversation. Through decades of study and practice, Dan and Cherie have developed a simple process that creates a deep and meaningful connection we all crave — even during the hardest of times. All that’s required is a genuine desire to connect.
When speaking about connection and creating safety for others, Dan shared, “If we are going to connect, if we are going to make space for each other, we have to slow down. Once you slow down, you have more ability and access to feel and share what is true for you.” Dan went on to say, “In order to create safety for others, one of the best techniques is just to go first and vulnerably share where you are. Share yourself with other people and that automatically, without saying anything or being prescriptive or directive, gives other people permission to both feel what they feel and bring that back to you. It’s fast, it’s powerful and it’s direct.”
Dan and Cheri also discussed:
Practices of identifying and creating sharable skills to be better teammates
Recognizing and identifying ways we have been complacent or added to a problem of injustice - and what to do about it
Making ourselves feel honestly heard virtually
