It’s Time We Say Goodbye to Unproductive Meetings
/When people think about meetings it often brings to mind stuffy conference rooms or lengthy phone calls that produce little to no results—plus an hour of your time you'll never get back.
But what if you could design your meetings in a way that would actually lead to strategic problem solving and decision making?
Associations Now recently shared some great wisdom from Outspoken speaker Mary Abbajay on how to facilitate better meetings that will benefit everyone involved.
“Creating a meeting that is engaging and productive requires more than simply jotting down a few topic areas,” Abbajay says. “Think of meetings as a series of conversations in which the participants must engage in order to accomplish the purpose.”
Finding ways to get participants engaged in the discussion in a meaningful way can often be difficult, but Abbajay shares so practical tips.
“Techniques can range from simple ‘round-robins’ where you go around the room and hear from everyone, to pair-shares, to more elaborate conversation structures like SWOT Analysis where participants identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats,” Abbajay says.
